Filing a Paternity Suit

Paternity suits can be filed by the mother, alleged father, a legal representative acting on behalf of the child, or the Florida Department of Revenue. They are usually filed to establish financial or time-sharing responsibilities during a divorce, child custody, or child support cases. A DNA test is ordered by a judge to conclusively determine whether or not the alleged father is the biological father of the child.

Biological Father and Legal Father’s Rights

Determining a biological father is a quite simple process, requiring only a DNA test to determine paternity. Determining the Legal Father of a child, however, may not always be as easy, since parenthood must be determined by a court in Florida. A court ruling can determine a child’s legal father as can marriage and adoption. At Effman Law we believe each parent deserves a fair case and our attorneys will work hard to provide unbiased representation in paternity cases.

Divorce – Steven Effman Law

You should speak with an attorney for advice and more information on divorce, paternity, child support, alimony, domestic violence, relocation, contempt, modification, enforcement, etc. You may decide, instead of divorce, you want to have a “Separation Agreement” between you and your spouse detailing all aspects of life while still married, but separated…with or without children.
