Let us show you why we are a premier family law firm in the Fort Lauderdale and Plantation areas.

Filing a Paternity Suit

Paternity suits can be filed by the mother, alleged father, a legal representative acting on behalf of the child, or the Florida Department of Revenue. They are usually filed to establish financial or time-sharing responsibilities during a divorce, child custody, or child support cases. A DNA test is ordered by a judge to conclusively determine whether or not the alleged father is the biological father of the child.

Biological Father and Legal Father’s Rights

Determining a biological father is a quite simple process, requiring only a DNA test to determine paternity. Determining the Legal Father of a child, however, may not always be as easy, since parenthood must be determined by a court in Florida. A court ruling can determine a child’s legal father as can marriage and adoption. At Effman Law we believe each parent deserves a fair case and our attorneys will work hard to provide unbiased representation in paternity cases.
